Connect your domain at Namecheap

If your domain uses Namecheap's own DNS (BasicDNS), everything is on the Advanced DNS tab. New Namecheap domains come with a parking page and a redirect that you remove.

Watch it first

35 seconds, with narration. The steps below say the same thing in writing.

Your changes

For yourdomain.com, at Namecheap:

TypeNameValueWhat it does
A@2.25.245.213your domain points at your new site
CNAMEwwwyourdomain.compoints www at your domain
AAAA@, wwwdeleteold IPv6 records point at your old host

Email records (MX, TXT) stay exactly as they are. We never need your password.

  • Take a screenshot of your records before you change anything. If something goes wrong, you can put them back.
  • Your new site is already live on its temporary address, so there is no rush and no downtime.
STEP 1

Open Advanced DNS

  1. Sign in and select Domain List in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Manage next to yourdomain.com.
  3. Select the Advanced DNS tab. The records are under HOST RECORDS.

No HOST RECORDS section? Your domain uses other nameservers: "Namecheap Web Hosting DNS" means the records are in your hosting cPanel (Zone Editor); "Custom DNS" means another company. The domain checker tells you which.

STEP 2

Change the records

  1. A Record, Host @: set Value to 2.25.245.213 and select the green tick. (None? ADD NEW RECORD → A Record → Host @.) Delete any other A Record for @ with the trash can.
  2. CNAME Record, Host www (often parkingpage.namecheap.com): set Value to yourdomain.com. (with the dot at the end) and select the green tick.
  3. Delete every URL Redirect Record and every AAAA Record with the trash can.
  4. Select SAVE ALL CHANGES if it shows.

Also check the Domain tab: clear anything in the Redirect Domain section.

Leave MX and TXT records (and Mail Settings) as they are.

After you save

  • Namecheap says record changes normally take about 30 minutes.
  • We check every hour and email you the moment your site is live on your domain. The secure certificate (the padlock) is set up automatically.
  • Want to look yourself? Use the domain checker.
  • If something is in the way (an old record, a setting), we email you once with the exact fix.
