Connect your domain at SiteGround

If your domain uses SiteGround's nameservers, you change records in Site Tools. SiteGround has no undo button for DNS, so take a screenshot of your records before you start.

Watch it first

40 seconds, with narration. The steps below say the same thing in writing.

Your changes

For yourdomain.com, at SiteGround:

TypeNameValueWhat it does
A@2.25.245.213your domain points at your new site
CNAMEwwwyourdomain.compoints www at your domain
AAAA@, wwwdeleteold IPv6 records point at your old host

Email records (MX, TXT) stay exactly as they are. We never need your password.

  • Take a screenshot of your records before you change anything. If something goes wrong, you can put them back.
  • Your new site is already live on its temporary address, so there is no rush and no downtime.
STEP 1

Open the DNS Zone Editor

  1. Sign in to the Client Area, select Websites, then Site Tools next to your site.
  2. In the left sidebar select Domain, then DNS Zone Editor.
  3. Take a screenshot of the Manage DNS Records list.

An orange ACTIVE CDN box? SiteGround's CDN locks the A and AAAA records. Select MANAGE CDN (or Speed → CDN) and Deactivate it first.

STEP 2

Change the records

  1. In Manage DNS Records, find the A record for yourdomain.com and select the pencil. Enter 2.25.245.213 and Confirm.
  2. Delete any other A record for your domain, and every AAAA record for it and www: trash can → Confirm.
  3. If a www record exists, delete it (or edit a www CNAME so it resolves to your domain). Then in Create New Record choose the CNAME tab: Name www, Resolves to yourdomain.com, CREATE.

SiteGround email? If your MX records say "mail is hosted at mx10.antispam.mailspamprotection.com", your mailboxes are on SiteGround. Leave every MX and mail record alone and keep your SiteGround plan.

After you save

  • SiteGround says changes can take up to 72 hours; most are much quicker.
  • We check every hour and email you the moment your site is live on your domain. The secure certificate (the padlock) is set up automatically.
  • Want to look yourself? Use the domain checker.
  • If something is in the way (an old record, a setting), we email you once with the exact fix.
